Najib Bateganya leads the Water, Sanitation & Hygiene team’s efforts to advance inclusive and safely managed sanitation, through legacy investments and commitments with international funding institutions and global and regional partners.
Before joining the foundation in 2023, Najib worked in multiple contexts in the water, sanitation, and environmental sectors, including as a research scientist, deputy director for sanitation and environment for the Kampala Capital City Authority in Uganda, and strategic counsel and advisor for bilateral and multilateral development agencies working on transformative urban development programs across water, sanitation, public health, and climate resilience.
Najib earned a Ph.D. in environmental and water resources management sciences from the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences in Vienna, Austria, and earned an M.Sc. in environmental and water resources management sciences from the IHE Delft Institute for Water Education in Delft, Netherlands. Najib is also a certified international project management professional.
