Kate Somers
Kate Somers leads strategy development, budget allocation, operations and management for the Global Health Agencies and Funds team.
Previously, Kate served as the deputy director for evidence and impact initiatives on the foundation’s Maternal, Newborn & Child Health team. Since joining the foundation in 2011, she has managed grantmaking in multiple areas, including health service delivery, health policy, quality of care, and measurement, and she has co-authored publications on those topics.
Kate has served in external technical and advisory groups that include the Countdown to 2030 Steering Committee, the World Health Organization Policy Reference Group for Women’s, Children’s and Adolescents’ Health, the Global Financing Facility Quality of Care Technical Advisory Group, and the board of the Partnership for Maternal, Newborn & Child Health.
Before joining the foundation in 2011, Kate served in the Peace Corps and worked for the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the California Endowment, and IntraHealth International.
Kate has a master’s degree in public health policy and administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a master’s degree in English from North Carolina State University, and a J.D. from California Western School of Law.
