HIV treatment helps prevent new infections. The first step toward universal treatment is making sure that people living with HIV know their status.

Currently, only 70 percent do. Studies from around the world demonstrate that people, especially those who are hard to reach and at risk, prefer self-testing to clinic-based testing.

So far, approximately 40 countries have self-testing policies. If that number goes up, the number of new cases will go down.
