Theresa Hwang leads a team that advances the foundation’s gender integration efforts, which elevate the strategic importance of gender equality across the foundation’s global programs. She is responsible for identifying strategic opportunities and providing staff support to program teams so they can develop gender-intentional strategies and investments for greater impact.
Theresa joined the foundation in 2018 as an interim senior program officer for gender integration. In this role, she worked with program teams to deepen their focus on key gender considerations. She also refined and designed a foundation-wide approach to integrating gender into global programs and provided technical guidance on the foundation’s Women in Leadership grant portfolio.
Before joining the foundation, Theresa spent more than a decade designing, implementing, and evaluating gender equality programs at CARE, a global humanitarian organization that works in more than 90 countries. As senior director for gender justice, she was the global lead for gender equality programs, which also involved collaborating with colleagues in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) roles to develop organizational policies and DEI training for global CARE staff.
Theresa has an undergraduate degree from Stanford University and an MPA from Princeton University.
