The foundation’s leaders come from a broad range of backgrounds and have a diversity of expertise and experience that spans science and technology, medicine, public policy, education, communications, law, and business. Our leaders are guided by the foundation’s mission to create a world in which every person has the opportunity to live a healthy, productive life.
We are governed by a board, which in 2022 was expanded to include the CEO and five independent experts. The members of the board contribute diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and expertise to help guide and strengthen the foundation's governance, strategic direction, operations, financial planning, and overall performance. Meet our leaders
- President, Global DevelopmentDr. Chris Elias focuses on high-impact, sustainable solutions for people in developing countries.
- Program Chief Financial OfficerJamie Morris is the divisional chief financial officer for both Global Development and Global Growth & Opportunity. She also leads the foundation’s Innovative Finance Investments and Partner Organizational Effectiveness teams.
- Director, Global Health Agencies and FundsKieran Daly oversees the foundation’s engagements with key global health institutions, and his team promotes greater alignment and collaboration among those institutions.
- Director, Office of the President and Chief of StaffHaley Hill is the director, Office of the President, and chief of staff, Global Development Division.
- Director, Primary Health CareTracey McNeill leads a team that works to dramatically improve the efficiency, quality, and equity of primary health care by building on the deep experience of the foundation and its partners in health systems strengthening, health system design, and service delivery innovation.
- Director, India Country OfficeM. Hari Menon leads the India Office. He also oversees the foundation’s work in South and South-East Asia.
- Director, ImmunizationViolaine Mitchell leads the foundation’s work to ensure vaccines and immunization services are effectively prioritized and delivered.
- Director, EthiopiaHaddis Tadesse oversees our work in Ethiopia and leads a team that manages programs and builds diplomatic relations with key partners and stakeholders across the region.
- Director, Program Advocacy and Communications, AfricaRachel Toku-Appiah leads the foundation’s program advocacy and communications work in Africa.
- Director, Program Advocacy and Communications, Growth, Opportunity, and EmpowermentArchna Vyas oversees the foundation’s advocacy and communications efforts for two foundation divisions: Global Growth & Opportunity and Gender Equality.
- Director, Poverty Alleviation, IndiaAlkesh Wadhwani leads the poverty alleviation portfolio for the foundation’s India Country Office.
- Senior Advisor, ImmunizationGreg Widmyer supports the team’s work on Gavi and oversees the team’s work on HPV immunization and cervical cancer prevention.
- Deputy Director, Technology, Research, and Analytics, Polio TeamDr. Ananda Sankar Bandyopadhyay coordinates global research aimed at achieving and sustaining polio eradication.
- Deputy Director, Global DevelopmentValerie Nkamgang Bemo manages the foundation's investments that support communities affected by natural disasters and complex emergencies.
- Deputy Director, Program Advocacy and CommunicationsDr. Sanjana Bhardwaj leads policy and advocacy work related to family planning; maternal, newborn, and child health; nutrition; and primary health care systems.
- Deputy Director, Disease ControlDr. Miriam Chipimo leads the development and implementation of the Africa team’s regional infectious disease strategy, which focuses on scaling up delivery of high-impact, cost-effective health and nutrition solutions across the continent.
